The Texas AFT honored Ruth Skow at the State Convention this summer in El Paso by awarding her the Harley Hiscox Pioneer Award. Harley is a former president of the Alliance for Dallas Educators and spent over 40 years as a union leader. He and Gayle Fallon, former president of the Houston Federation of Teachers, are the only other two individuals who have received this award for outstanding and meritorious service to the AFT and its members. Superintendent's Employment Contract -  2015

Members of the La Joya and McAllen Federation of Teachers gathered for a press conference on August 9, 2012, to learn about a new initiative from the American Federation of Teachers called, "Share My Lesson." It is a website where all teachers can register to upload/download effective lessons and strategies they think might be helpful to other teachers around the world.
