Bylaws

Our union’s Leadership Academy seeks to build a core of activists and leaders throughout Texas to enable us to make a difference right where our members work.  We will not only build our union’s leadership capacity, but we seek to identify new trainers too. Our collective work of developing our leadership capacity is a shared process and we must all be committed to engage members in the work of our union.

The Texas AFT honored Ruth Skow at the State Convention this summer in El Paso by awarding her the Harley Hiscox Pioneer Award. Harley is a former president of the Alliance for Dallas Educators and spent over 40 years as a union leader. He and Gayle Fallon, former president of the Houston Federation of Teachers, are the only other two individuals who have received this award for outstanding and meritorious service to the AFT and its members.
