Texas Needs a "Simple Decency Act" for School Support Personnel!
In many districts a support staffer can be fired without any explanation and without any chance to be heard in response to alleged grounds for termination. That's just wrong!
The success of our schools in educating all students to a high standard depends crucially on attracting and keeping qualified support personnel.
Start preparing to attend the 2011 Lobby Day, along with all other Texas Education employees from around our state.
Join us as we head to Austin on March 14, 2011. We will provide meals and transportation to and from Austin . This is your chance to visit and speak to your local legislators about your concerns and the respect you need as support personnel.

Educator-To-Voter Project
How can you help? If you are a Texas AFT member, join the Educator-To-Voter Project! Texas AFT targets winnable races where members can persuade voters to elect the real pro-education candidates.
By sending a message to those voters, you can change the balance of power in local elections, statewide races and in the Texas Legislature—the body that determines state education policy. (The vast majority of Texas AFT’s supported candidates have won in the primaries and general election.)
All you do is handwrite a short, persuasive message from an educator’s viewpoint, hand-address the cards, and send them by mail to fellow educators or other education friendly voters across Texas.
We’ll provide everything you need: instructions, suggested comments, lists of key voters and the targeted candidates.
You can contact our Political Organizer Elida Castillo at 956-682-1143 if you would like to help.
If you have questions about any benefits please contact Barbara Lightheart, Texas AFT Benefits Director, 1-800-222-3827 or belightheart@texasaft.org
