SCHOOL BUS SAFETY WEEK OCT. 18-22, 2010

Theme: "Cross in view, it’s the right thing to do"
The wheels on National School Bus Safety Week began rolling Monday October 18, 2010.
The goal was to keep people alert around school buses, and this year's theme is "Cross in view. It's the right thing to do."
It's sending a message to students and others boarding, exiting or walking around a school bus to safely cross the street in clear view of the bus driver.
Lawmakers took part in a kick-off event Monday morning.
There was also an awards ceremony at the Capitol honoring students who participated in the annual School Bus Safety poster contest.

Everyday basic rules that the kids should be reminded of:

· If the bus is moving, stay seated.
· Keep talking to a minimum and use a low voice
· Never cross behind a bus, either in loading or unloading
· Always be alert to traffic when exiting
· Never put hands or your head out a bus window
· Do not pick up something dropped near the bus unless the driver is alerted.
