The Texas AFT honored Ruth Skow at the State Convention this summer in El Paso by awarding her the Harley Hiscox Pioneer Award. Harley is a former president of the Alliance for Dallas Educators and spent over 40 years as a union leader. He and Gayle Fallon, former president of the Houston Federation of Teachers, are the only other two individuals who have received this award for outstanding and meritorious service to the AFT and its members. This is a very prestigious award, and is given on rare occasions to Texas AFT leaders for lifetime achievements. McAllen AFT is very proud of Ruth for the many years she has dedicated to building an effective union in the Rio Grande Valley. She earned this honor and deserves our thanks and gratitude for being an inspirational educator and union leader.
